Mount Olympus

Olympus is the tallest mountain of Greece and it is known worldwide as the twelve Olympian gods lived there according to the religion of the ancient Greeks. It is also the second highest mountain in the Balkans, but also throughout Europe from the Alps to the Caucasus. It is a mountain of interesting bio-diversity area and it was declared a national park (the first one in Greece) in 1938.

Every year thousands of nature lovers visit Mount Olympus. On its slopes there are organized mountain refuges with various mountaineering and climbing routes available to guests who want to explore the beauty of the landscape. The most famous starting point is the town of Litochoro at the eastern foot of the mountain, 100 km from Thessaloniki. This is also the finishing point of the Alpine Olympus Marathon which takes place every summer.
