Pieria Mountains are located northwest of Olympus and they are situated in the prefectures of Imathia, Pieria and Kozani. Even though they are not very tall (the highest peak is Flambouro at an altitude of 2.193 meters), they have beautiful and long trails.
In Greek mythology the nine Muses, protectors of poetry, music, singing and dancing, were enchanted by the wonderful environment of Pieria and decided to stay in this region. Their melodious song echoed in the mountains and canyons until they were defeated in a battle by Elikoniades Muses and were transformed into birds by them.
